Well it’s finally happening!
For the uninitiated, just over a year ago I and Matt Stevens came up with a plan.
What if I recorded a vinyl LP, you know one of those black plastic things?
“But what if no one bought it?” I asked “I’d be left with boxes of unsold vinyl” Is there a sadder thing?
Then Matt came up with the idea of asking people to pre pay for it? Just enough to cover costs , that way you could record and then press to order.
So here we are, I now have enough money to go and record and record I will next Saturday the 5th at one of the best live studios in London. I can’t say where it is at the moment as it’s a bit of a high profile place. The phenomenal Kevin Feazey will be in charge of the proceedings. Amongst other things he also co produced Matt Stevens albums and played on and produced “The Fierce and The Dead’s recent critically acclaimed prog monster.
I’ll be playing in-front of friends that have supported me over the years and I just can’t wait.
After a few hours of prepping and rehearsal I shall be basically performing live for 45 minutes surrounded by wonderful microphones and some great friends!
Matt Stevens will be in attendance and has promised to video the affair.
Another great friend and top photographer John Wilson will also be capturing the event so expect some amazing pictures.
As I mentioned, this is just the first phase (of perhaps the second?) the next phase will be raising the funds to actually press and print the album!
***UPDATE*** Just had a mention in Southampton’s premier music blog! MintSouth

Press realease Nick Tann Vinyl project
British/Eastleigh-based singer songwriter Nick Tann has at last raised the funds to kick his year long The Vinyl Project into its second phase!
Working with the hugely talented Matt Stevens, Nick devised The Vinyl Project concept back in February 2010. Consumed by making his music available in an online environment, it came to him that he could veer from the new media path and strike out with a vinyl release, funded by his fans.
“I wanted to keep it simple” said Nick “So I just asked people to pre pay for the album via a paypal button on my website”.
On the strength of pre-orders and donations from resin-loving music aficionados, the studio space is now booked and Nick will be playing to a small, invited audience at Livingstone Studios in March. All live, one take and absolutely no overdubs! “It’s an exciting time” said Nick “the pressure is certainly on and I can’t wait!”
Once the recording is in the can, Nick will enter the final phase of gathering the final funds so he can press his tunes to lovely, glossy vinyl and send it out to the world. Exciting times for those of us still in thrall to gatefold album covers and two sided LPs, who still get a thrill from dropping a needle onto a groove.
