Nick Tann & Nick Tann Trio

From the blog

Practice makes perfect

I’ve been rehearsing with the Trio this week and it’s a rare and beautiful thing.

Whether its legend or not, Prince was alleged to put his band through daily practice six months prior to every tour. I would love to have a fraction of that time to perfect the Nick Tann Trio live set! I too am working with top line musicians and fortunately so. On good weeks, Bastian manage to snatch 90 minutes practice between woking and looking after family. We have managed a total of 4 full band rehearsals this year. The guys know the songs, the roadmap of intros, verses, choruses, breaks and endings. We build in a bit of “wriggle room” where I can add a bit more to a solo or extend a chorus and sometimes I have been known to go off on a bit of a tangent safe in the knowledge that the guys will be there driving things along whilst I am off with the muse…

One of the many reasons why I look forward to gigs so much as I don’t always know what is going to happen!

This is a private clip from this weeks practice with Bas, I’ve made it a free download   Download

Our next outing is this Saturday at Music in the City, in King John’s House.

It will be the first time you will be able to meet Julie our new merch lady. Come and say hi, pick up a badge or a CD and see what we are up to next!

After leaving school I joined a great band “Intrigue” and later “Cry Wolf”. I do remember it was the start of a lifelong friendship with Neil Drinkwater a great pianist better known as “Red Stripe” leader of the Red Stripe Band. I have had the pleasure of playing with “Red” on many occasions filling in for his bass player when he needs me. It was a great band, all amazing original songs, we played around the Chertsey area in Surrey and I can remember lugging my huge bass speaker around The Rock Garden, Covent Garden at some point!
