Nick Tann Trio R.I.P.

In 2016 I started to realise the dream of forming a band around me and the songs I write. At the time I had been listening to a lot of John Mayer, if you haven’t heard of him I can certainly recommend doing so. He formed the John Mayer Trio with a drummer and a bass player (Pino Palladino, one of my bass heros) and as a result I decided to call my band the Nick Tann Trio. Makes sense yes? After a few months of playing with Bastian on bass we finally got a drummer, Guy, and so the trio was “born” 2018 was a great year for us, we played some great gigs and despite not having a lot of time to rehearse, people really loved the sound we made.
So here is 2018 and the band are going great guns, Guy has exchanged his congas for a drum kit, Bastian has been seen playing some electric bass, I have written some new songs, a few old favourites are being reworked and there is an optimistic feel.

A new sound is evolving, something greater than the sum of our parts and I love it! However the “Nick Tann Trio” gives the impression we are a “Jazz Trio”. Now there is nothing wrong with a jazz trio but when one is looking at festival bookings first impressions are important. It came t a head last week when I was offered a gig at a new local bar and they said that “we could do with a nice jazz trio” that was the final straw. So I am ditching the Nick Tann Trio as a name for the band. By default “Nick Tann” will always be with the band. Sometimes there may also be the odd “Nick Tann Solo Show”. So don’t be surprised if some Nick Tann Trio related stuff starts to disappear. I still have a few Nick Tann Trio cds left but once they are sold then there will be new labels.
